LOCAL INTERIOR DESIGNER WINS REGIONAL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
Mississippi interior designer, Celia Barrett, was in New Orleans recently to receive the top honor for the Delta Chapter of the International Interior Design Association's "RECOGNIZING EXCELLENCE AWARD" in the residential category. Ms Barrett was presented this award for her design of the master bedroom for the St. Andrews Designer Showhouse, this past spring.
The judges said of Ms Barrett's design:
The space achieves elegance and sophistication through the neutral color palette and the clean lines of the furniture. The antique silver accents in the crown molding, bedside tables, and picture frames add sparkle and richness to the space, while the photographs of the client's pets add whimsy and familiarity to the space. The slight hint of blue on the walls and the bedspread softens the space, while the subtle pattern in the carpet complements the space. The space achieves elegance and sophistication through the neutral color palette.
A jewel box, great attention to detail, very luxurious.
Excellent straightforward statement. Beautiful attention to detail. The concept was successfully accomplished in this project, and while small, the design was exceptionally executed. Innovative use of space to make the room feel large, including the scale of the crown moulding and the use of mirrors between the window elements. The pattern and texture associated with the finishes is well-thought out and beautifully installed. The monochromatic palette appears fresh and elegant while serving the purposes of increasing the room size through appearance of space. The use of the owner's pets as art images brings a personal touch to a space that could have appeared impersonal otherwise. Well done.
"My concept was that of a charming European hotel. With the small space, I needed to keep it in a simple color palette and use large scale patterns repeated in the custom headboard and the beveled mirrored wall. I used a few choice antiques to bring interest to the smooth lines of the furniture and the silks and linens used in the bedding." Said Ms Barrett. "I am very honored to be recognized by my peers. It was a thrill to receive this award".
The competition covered interior designers in the tri-state region of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The awards were given at the annual I.I.D.A. banquet recently held in New Orleans. Full shots of the project can be seen at www.celiabarrettdesign.com.
