THOUGHTS FOR FALL 2009 It is Fall and time to take a look at what is new, hot and "trendy." There are wonderful items that are showing up in all the stylish interiors right now. Let's take a look at furniture first. In the traditional interior, I am seeing four poster beds making a real comeback. The English cottage look can be so very charming. I love the four posters in cheerful soft enamels. They mix well with contemporary interiors as well as traditional. Enameled pieces in pleasing colors can add a delightful touch to a room.
Also keep your eyes open for Acrylic tables and other "glass-like"
pieces. If you are looking for a unique detail for upholstered pieces,
add a little bling. For furniture, that comes in the form of hobnails
- available in many finishes. To work with contemporary spaces, add polished
chrome, silver leaf or even mirrored touches. Add gold leaf or aged silver
nail heads for a sophisticated element. Also, anything tufted is just
as hot as it can be and oh so beautiful.
As far as colors for both fall 2009 and into 2010, look for fuscias and magenta for accents. These are the cool side of the red family and cool colors are expected to be here to stay for awhile. So use taupes and grays for your neutrals and add navy and soft blues together for an elegant look that men and women will both love. Leaf green is still a handsome shade for upholstery or accents. Reds and purples are also good. And I do believe that oranges and yellows will hold on for quite a while. For patterns, look to large scale florals, especially in rounded Art Deco shapes taken from the 1920s and 30s. |
